What does a quiz master do?

“A quiz master — or quizmaster — runs the competition, not just the microphone. The job covers writing or reviewing the question set, pacing each round, reading the room, adjudicating disputed answers quickly and fairly, and keeping scores clean while several hundred people watch. Being good on stage is where the job starts, not where it ends.”
