Are mid-cycle upgrades and downgrades prorated?
“Yes, mid-cycle changes are prorated by the time spent on each plan during the billing cycle. Example: upgrade from a $10 plan to a $20 plan exactly halfway through the cycle, and your next invoice is $5 higher: a $5 credit for the unused half of the old plan, plus $10 for the new plan's second half.”
As a non-profit, can I use the Free plan for a project that generates revenue?
“By default, no, since this meets our Commercial Use criteria of generating revenue. We can, however, make exceptions depending on your individual project’s details. Please reach out to us at support@stadiamaps.com and start a conversation. Our paid subscriptions are quite affordable, and we will do our best to work with you.”
Can I use Stadia Maps as a for-profit entity or in a product which is sold or generates revenue?
“Yes, however, in both cases, you meet our criteria of Commercial Use and are required to have an active paid subscription”
What's the difference between Autocomplete v1 and v2?
“Autocomplete v2 is more efficient (1 credit vs 20 credits/request) and recommended for new projects. v1 is maintained for backward compatibility.”
How accurate is the geocoding?
“Accuracy depends on the quality of the input address and OpenStreetMap data coverage. Reverse geocoding returns the nearest known address or feature. For mission-critical applications, validate results and consider using Structured Geocoding for address component matching.”
Can I cache geocoding results?
“Yes. With Standard plans and above, you can store results permanently in your own database and read them back, enabling offline geocoding without repeated API calls.”
Do you track user data?
“No. Stadia Maps doesn't collect telemetry, track end users, or sell behavioral data. We're fully GDPR and CCPA compliant. See our privacy commitment for details.”
What are the API rate limits?
“There's no fixed requests-per-second limit. Your constraint is monthly credits. Contact us if you need specialized rate-limit arrangements.”
What's the difference between interactive and static maps?
“Interactive maps let you add pan, zoom, and click interactions with full developer control via SDKs like MapLibre and Leaflet. Static maps are simple image embeds. They're faster to load and easier to integrate when you don't need interactivity. Choose interactive for web apps and mobile; choose static for emails, PDFs, and quick embeds.”
Which map styles should I use?
“Alidade Bright is clean and readable for most applications. Alidade Satellite combines satellite imagery with vector overlays for geographic context. Stamen Toner is minimalist and print-friendly. Alidade Smooth is light and modern. Pick based on your use case, then customize with tools like Maputnik if needed.”
