“You can switch providers for free as soon as your fixed-term contract expires. If you don’t have a fixed-term contract but instead have a variable or dynamic contract, you can switch right away. With a fixed-term contract, you can switch without penalty three months before the end date. Use our tool to check if you can switch yet.”
How long does it take to switch?
“You can set up the switch in just a few minutes, but the entire process takes an average of three weeks: two weeks for the legal cooling-off period plus processing time at the new supplier.”
How does the supplier calculate my advance payment?
“The monthly advance payment (or installment) is an estimate of the annual energy costs, divided by twelve. Suppliers use historical meter readings from the past three years. For a new home, they use the average consumption of comparable households.”
